NAIDOC Week is a celebration held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but also by Australians from all walks of life.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’ and the acronym has since become the name of the week itself.

Each year has a different theme. In 2021, the theme is Heal Country! which is all about embracing First Nation’s cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia’s national heritage. It calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.

A great way to get involved is by heading to your local events in a COVID-safe manner or by showing your support on social media.
